Laboratory Technician/ Scientist

Carrying out routine diagnostic work on patient samples for diagnosis, management monitoring and treatment of patients ROLE; Supervisor DEPARTMENT: HEALTH GRADE: 10 EXPERIENCE: 3-5 years REPORTS TO: Health Services Director VACANCIES : 1 Position Key Responsibilities Carrying out routine diagnostic laboratory work on patient samples for diagnosis and management monitoring and treatment of the patients Ordering, inventory, storage and general stock control of all laboratory consumables and non-consumables Maintenance, calibration and ensuring servicing of lab equipment Supervising all lab personnel and activities Training i.e. being involved in all hospital training programmes where necessary or when need arises Making sure all lab results are out on time i.e. lab results turn over Laboratory internal and external quality control Compiling monthly, quarterly and annual statistics and reports Lab outbreak management Participating in EPA activities and programmes and notifiable disease consciousness General coordination, packaging, communicating and receipt of all samples and results for ALL REFERRAL tests Supervision of nursing staff doing rapid HIV testing in the prevention of mother to child transmission programmes Qualifications & Requirements Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Laboratory Science or equivalent 5 Ordinary levels including Mathematics and English Three (3) years’ experience in a similar environment Key Competencies Ability to communicate effectively Ability to work effectively, both independently and within a team Ability to handle pressure and work with minimum supervision
