Job description from the source
Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for a full-time, fixed term position as a Postdoctoral Researcher within the Digital Metabolic Twin Centre, School of Medicine at the University of Galway, Ireland. This position is funded by Vistamilk and is available from 16/3/2027 to contract end date of 15/3/2028, with the possibility of further extension. The Digital Metabolic Twin Centre hosts an international, multidisciplinary team of researchers and is dedicated to advancing precision medicine through computational modelling. Our focus lies on creating a Digital Metabolic Twin for each person, based on their own data, to provide bespoke health insights and inform health decisions. The Centre uses a computational modelling approach, termed constraint-based modelling to develop models of human metabolism and the gut microbiome to investigate how nutrition, genetics, and microbial communities interact to influence human health and disease. By integrating biological and experimental data, our research aims to improve understanding of complex biological processes and support the development of personalised approaches to health, with applications in inherited, gastrointestinal, and neurodegenerative diseases. Vistamilk is an SFI funded centre focusing on three strategic goals: sustainable growth, food security, and prosperity and societal enrichment for the Irish dairy and agri-tech industry. The Digital Metabolic Twin Centre’s research endeavors to enable the design of healthier dairy products by creating a better understanding of the role of dairy food on microbial and human metabolism on human health. **Salary:** Postdoctoral Researcher salary scale €47,273 - €60,250 per annum, (subject to the project’s funding limitations), and pro rata for shorter and/or part-time contracts. The default position for all new public sector appointments is the 1st point of the salary scale. This may be reviewed, and consideration afforded to appointment at a higher point on the payscale (subject to the project’s funding limitations), where evidence of prior years’ equivalent experience is accepted in determining placement on the scale above point 1, subject to the maximum of the scale. (Research Salary Scales - University of Galway) **Closing date for receipt of applications is 17:00 (Irish Time) on 30/11/2026.
