Job description from the source

**About Us:** Virtual Spy Room is a Detroit-based, AI-powered true crime escape room built on our proprietary investigation software, MOST. Players act as members of a fictional investigative unit and get 60 minutes to solve a case. We’re looking for a junior or entry-level software developer to join us and grow into a key technical role. This is a paid, hands-on position where you’ll receive on-the-job training directly from me, the founder, a self-taught developer with real industry experience, and learn our systems from the ground up. **What You’ll Work On:** Every game is built around a fictional case, and each case needs its own evidence trail. Our fictitious databases include: * Credit card records * Flight records * Driver and vehicle registry (DVR) * Prison records * Video surveillance that players can scrub through to find clues All records are fictional and created just for the game. As we build new cases, we’ll also add databases as the story needs them, such as rideshare and restaurant records. **How You’ll Learn:** * Work side by side with the founder on the live MOST platform * Start with smaller tasks, like entering and organizing database records, then move into front-end and back-end development * Learn how the pieces connect: the search tools, databases, video triggers, and AI components * Help design new cases, then build the databases and data to fit each case’s storyline * Take on more ownership of the platform as your skills grow **Pay:** $18 to $22 per hour, depending on experience. Paid on-the-job training provided. **Responsibilities:** * Learn and help maintain the MOST platform * Build and populate fictitious databases for each case * Help create new cases for players to solve * Support front-end and back-end development tasks * Grow into greater ownership of our technical systems over time **Requirements:** * Experience or familiarity with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Bootstrap, PHP, and MySQL, including local development tools such as XAMPP, phpMyAdmin, and Apache * Experience with React is a strong plus * Strong problem-solving skills and a willingness to learn * Creativity and interest in storytelling and true crime are a bonus * Comfort working in a small, fast-moving business environment **Interview Process:** In-person interviews at Russell Industrial Center, 1600 Clay Street, Building 1, Room 134, Detroit. Dates to be determined. Pay: From $18.00 per hour Expected hours: 20.0 – 30.0 per week Application Question(s): * Which of these have you used: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Bootstrap, PHP, MySQL, XAMPP, phpMyAdmin, Apache, React? List them and tell us how you used each one? Work Location: Hybrid remote in Detroit, MI 48211
