Job description from the source
Mechanical Designer / CAD Designer **iDA-MECH Engineering — Rupert, Idaho** **Pay:** $25–$50 per hour, depending on experience **Position:** Full-Time | Primarily In-Office | Flexible Work Arrangements About iDA-MECH Engineering iDA-MECH Engineering is a small engineering consulting firm located in Rupert, Idaho. We provide mechanical design, CAD, and engineering support to food processing plants, equipment manufacturers, fabrication shops, equipment installers, and other engineering firms. Our projects are diverse and include custom machinery, conveyors, piping systems, factory layouts, structural steel platforms, catwalks, and detailed fabrication drawings. We also provide P&ID development, 3D scanning, and BIM support for industrial plant design and construction projects. We are looking for a motivated Mechanical Designer or CAD Designer who enjoys solving problems, working with industrial equipment, and turning ideas into practical designs. What We're Looking For Our ideal candidate is someone who enjoys designing, understands how things are built, and can work independently on a variety of projects. Many of our projects begin with little more than a customer describing a problem, a rough sketch, or a few field measurements. We need someone who can interpret those requirements, ask the right questions, and develop a practical solution. **We value practical experience and problem-solving ability as much as formal education.** A degree in mechanical, civil, or structural engineering is welcome but not required. Candidates with backgrounds in industrial fabrication, machining, welding, maintenance, construction, or equipment manufacturing are encouraged to apply. Primary Responsibilities * Develop 3D CAD models and detailed manufacturing and fabrication drawings, primarily using SolidWorks. * Design and modify custom machinery, conveyors, industrial equipment, piping systems, and structural supports. * Work directly with customers to understand project requirements, refine designs, and resolve technical challenges. * Manage multiple smaller design projects while meeting schedules and maintaining drawing accuracy. * Visit local manufacturing facilities and fabrication shops to take measurements, perform 3D scans, review equipment, and coordinate installations. * Develop designs that consider fabrication, assembly, installation, maintenance, and cost. * Collaborate with other engineers, designers, and fabrication personnel. Desired Qualifications * Strong CAD skills, preferably SolidWorks, or demonstrated ability to quickly learn new CAD software. * Good mechanical aptitude and understanding of manufacturing or fabrication processes. * Ability to independently develop practical designs from limited information. * Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. * Good written and verbal communication skills. * Comfortable spending substantial time working on detailed computer-based design projects. * Willingness to learn new software, industries, and design disciplines. Additional Experience We'd Love to See * Hands-on welding, machining, fabrication, industrial maintenance, or construction experience. * Food processing, agricultural equipment, material handling, or conveyor design experience. * Civil or structural engineering experience, including structural steel design and detailing. * AutoCAD, AutoCAD Plant 3D, Revit, or Navisworks experience. * BIM coordination, factory layout, and piping system design. * 3D laser scanning, point clouds, and as-built modeling. * Engineering calculations and SolidWorks Simulation / FEA. Location and Work Arrangements **This position is based at our office in Rupert, Idaho.** We prefer applicants from the Mini-Cassia area, Magic Valley, and surrounding communities who can work in our office and visit local industrial facilities when needed. Flexible work arrangements may be available depending on experience and the ability to work independently. Experienced candidates who are interested in a remote arrangement are welcome to inquire, provided they can meet the position's communication, coordination, and occasional on-site requirements. Travel has historically been limited, but occasional customer and fabrication shop visits are part of the position. Compensation and Benefits * $25–$50 per hour, based on experience and ability. * Paid overtime. * Paid holidays and time off. * Flexible work arrangements depending on experience and project requirements. * Wide variety of interesting design projects. * Opportunity to work directly with customers and see your designs fabricated and installed. * Opportunity to develop additional skills in mechanical, structural, and industrial plant design. How to Apply Please submit your resume and a brief description of your relevant design, CAD, manufacturing, or fabrication experience. Examples of previous CAD models, fabrication drawings, or design projects are encouraged, where permitted by previous employers or customers. We are especially interested in applicants who enjoy solving practical engineering problems and want to become a long-term part of a small, growing engineering firm. Pay: $50,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year Benefits: * Paid time off Work Location: In person
