Job description from the source
***LEAD THE TEAM. OWN THE PROGRAM. MAKE EVERY AFTERNOON COUNT.*** ***NOW HIRING: SITE COORDINATORS*** **YMCA Y Scholars Program** Ready to lead something that matters? The YMCA Y Scholars Program is looking for Site Coordinators who know that great programs are built through great leadership. As a Site Coordinator, you'll take ownership of an afterschool program serving approximately 100 students each day. You'll lead and develop a team, create a strong site culture, build partnerships with school leaders and families, and make sure students experience a program that is safe, organized, engaging, and worth coming back to every afternoon. This is a hands\-on leadership role. You'll coach people, solve problems, make decisions, strengthen systems, and continuously look for ways to make your program better. If you're ready to move beyond simply working in youth programs and start **leading one**, we want to meet you. **About the YMCA Y Scholars Program** At the YMCA Y Scholars Program, we envision a world where every student discovers their purpose and achieves their full potential. Each day, we elevate youth voice by creating enrichment experiences that build leadership skills, strengthen academic success, encourage healthy habits, spark curiosity, and help young people develop meaningful relationships. But exceptional programs require exceptional teams. And exceptional teams require strong leaders. That's where you come in. **Position Overview** * **Start Date:** Immediate * **Compensation:** $33\.00/hour * **Status:** Full\-Time, Non\-Exempt * **Hours:** Approximately 40 hours/week * **School\-Year Schedule:** Monday–Friday, typically 10:00 AM–6:30 PM * **Summer Schedule:** 8\-hour shifts scheduled between 8:00 AM–6:00 PM * **Locations:** Elementary and middle school sites throughout Richmond, San Pablo, El Sobrante, and Oakland * **Program Site Map:** http://map.ymcayscholars.org **Please review the Program Site Map before applying to make sure travel to our school sites works for you.** **This Is Your Program to Lead** As a Site Coordinator, you're the leader responsible for turning our program vision into an exceptional daily experience. You'll establish expectations. You'll develop your team. You'll create systems that keep the program running smoothly. You'll build relationships with the school community. And when something isn't working, you'll take ownership of making it better. That might mean coaching a Group Leader through a challenging moment, meeting with a principal about program priorities, analyzing attendance trends, supporting a conversation with a family, reorganizing staff assignments, or jumping directly into an activity to model what great facilitation looks like. **BUILD AND LEAD YOUR TEAM** * Supervise, coach, motivate, and develop your site's program team * Set clear expectations and create accountability around performance * Observe staff regularly and provide specific, actionable feedback * Help team members recognize their strengths and identify opportunities for growth * Create a culture where people communicate, collaborate, take ownership, and support one another * Train and onboard new team members so they're prepared to succeed * Model the professionalism, urgency, consistency, and attitude you expect from others **RUN AN EXCEPTIONAL PROGRAM** * Lead the day\-to\-day operation of your school\-based afterschool program * Build dependable schedules, routines, staff assignments, and operating systems * Ensure students are properly supervised and programs maintain required staff\-to\-student ratios * Create an environment where students feel safe, welcomed, challenged, and connected * Ensure staff deliver engaging, developmentally appropriate enrichment experiences * Anticipate operational challenges and respond quickly when plans need to change * Step directly into programming when your team needs additional leadership or support **MAKE QUALITY VISIBLE** * Observe activities and assess the quality of the student experience * Use attendance, program data, staff observations, and feedback to identify opportunities for improvement * Turn observations into coaching conversations and clear action steps * Help staff strengthen facilitation, engagement, behavior management, and relationship\-building skills * Apply youth development and expanded learning best practices throughout the program * Follow through to make sure improvements actually happen **BUILD PARTNERSHIPS THAT LAST** * Develop strong working relationships with principals, teachers, school staff, and district partners * Communicate proactively and professionally with families * Collaborate with community organizations and enrichment partners * Listen to feedback and work collaboratively to address concerns * Represent the YMCA and Y Scholars Program with professionalism, integrity, and care **OWN THE DETAILS** * Maintain accurate attendance, staffing, program, and operational records * Monitor enrollment and daily participation * Manage site supplies, resources, and assigned budget responsibilities * Complete required reports, documentation, and administrative responsibilities on time * Balance immediate program needs with longer\-term priorities * Participate in meetings, trainings, special events, and program initiatives * Communicate early when challenges arise—and come prepared with possible solutions **What You'll Bring** **Minimum Qualifications** * At least **2 years of youth development experience** * At least **1 year of staff supervision, team leadership, or program management experience** * **48 college units OR a passing score on the Instructional Aide Exam** * Reliable transportation and the ability to travel between program sites, trainings, and meetings * Ability to successfully clear required DOJ/FBI background checks * Ability to complete CPR, First Aid, AED, and Child Abuse Prevention certifications within 30 days of hire; training is provided **You'll Thrive Here If You...** **Develop people.** You understand that leadership isn't just telling people what to do. You observe, coach, challenge, encourage, and help people become better at what they do. **Take ownership.** You don't wait for someone else to solve every problem. You assess the situation, communicate, make decisions, and move things forward. **Set a high standard.** You notice the difference between a program that's simply operating and one that's genuinely excellent—and you're willing to do the work required to close that gap. **Lead from the front.** You're willing to jump into an activity, support a struggling team member, talk with a family, move equipment, or handle whatever else the moment requires. **Stay steady when things get complicated.** Youth programs are dynamic. Staff call out. Schedules change. Students have difficult days. You can remain calm, prioritize what matters, and lead your team forward. **Build trust.** You know strong programs depend on strong relationships—with students, team members, families, teachers, administrators, and community partners. **Stay organized.** You can manage people, schedules, attendance, communication, deadlines, documentation, and competing priorities without losing sight of the larger goal. **Turn information into action.** You pay attention to attendance trends, staff performance, student engagement, feedback, and what you're seeing firsthand—and use that information to improve your program. **Keep growing.** You welcome coaching, reflect on your own leadership, learn from mistakes, and continuously look for ways to become a stronger leader. **What You Get** We're looking for people who want to build careers—not simply fill positions. As a Site Coordinator, you'll have opportunities to strengthen your skills in staff supervision, coaching, program management, school partnerships, operations, data\-informed decision\-making, and youth development. **Benefits include:** * Free YMCA gym membership * Medical, dental, and vision insurance * Paid holidays and paid time off * YMCA retirement plan * Ongoing leadership and professional development * Coaching and training designed to strengthen your management skills * Opportunities to take on greater leadership responsibilities within the YMCA **Physical Requirements** The physical demands described below represent those required to perform the essential functions of the position. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential job functions. * Sufficient strength, agility, and mobility to actively supervise program activities * Ability to occasionally lift up to 30 pounds * Frequent standing and bending * Ability to walk for extended periods * Ability to visually supervise indoor and outdoor activities * Mobility necessary to respond quickly during emergencies **Why Lead With Y Scholars?** Because leadership multiplies. When you coach one Group Leader into becoming a stronger youth development professional, every student they work with benefits. When you create a team that communicates, supports one another, and takes pride in its work, students notice. When you build strong relationships with families and school partners, trust grows. And when approximately 100 students walk into your program each afternoon and find adults who know them, activities that challenge them, and a community where they belong—that doesn't happen by accident. You helped build it. ***READY TO TAKE THE LEAD?*** We're looking for Site Coordinators who can develop people, build strong systems, solve problems, strengthen partnerships, and turn a vision into an exceptional experience for students. If you're ready for meaningful responsibility, real ownership, and the opportunity to grow as a leader while making an impact every single day, we want to hear from you. *JOIN THE YMCA Y SCHOLARS PROGRAM AND BUILD A PROGRAM YOUR STUDENTS, FAMILIES, SCHOOL, AND TEAM ARE PROUD TO BE PART OF.* Pay: $33\.00 per hour Expected hours: 40\.0 per week Benefits: * Dental insurance * Employee assistance program * Employee discount * Flexible spending account * Health insurance * Life insurance * Paid time off * Retirement plan * Vision insurance Work Location: In person
