Job description from the source

**About us** Musgrove Engineering, P.A. is seeking an Energy Modeler / Building Performance Analyst to join our team in Boise, Idaho. This position will support our engineering and commissioning teams by developing whole-building energy models, performing energy-code compliance analysis, evaluating HVAC and envelope alternatives, and helping project teams make practical, data-driven decisions about building performance. Musgrove provides mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineering as well as energy studies, audits, retrofits, energy modeling, commissioning, and LEED-related services. We are looking for someone who enjoys understanding how buildings actually use energy, can dig into HVAC systems and building envelopes, and can turn modeling results into useful recommendations for engineers, architects, owners, and contractors. **Job Activities:** * Develop whole-building energy models for commercial and institutional projects. * Model HVAC systems, building envelopes, lighting, occupancy, controls, schedules, and other energy-consuming systems. * Analyze design alternatives and identify opportunities to reduce annual energy consumption and operating costs. * Perform energy-code compliance analysis using applicable editions of the IECC and ASHRAE Standard 90.1. * Prepare COMcheck documentation and related energy-code compliance calculations. * Evaluate HVAC system alternatives, including equipment efficiencies, heat recovery, economizers, controls, and system configurations. * Analyze envelope alternatives including insulation levels, glazing performance, air leakage, and solar characteristics. * Assist engineers with energy-efficiency decisions during schematic design, design development, and construction documents. * Support energy audits, retrofit studies, commissioning, and existing-building performance evaluations. * Perform utility-bill and energy-use analysis when required. * Prepare clear reports, calculations, graphics, and summaries explaining modeling assumptions and results. * Coordinate with mechanical and electrical engineers, architects, owners, commissioning providers, and other members of the design team. * Review architectural and MEP drawings to obtain the information necessary to construct accurate energy models. * Maintain model documentation so assumptions and results can be readily reviewed by the project team. Preferred Education Bachelor's degree in: * Mechanical Engineering * Architectural Engineering * Building Science * Energy Engineering * Architecture or a related technical field. Candidates with strong HVAC, building-energy, or modeling experience may also be considered. Preferred Experience * Building energy modeling or HVAC load/energy analysis * Commercial or institutional building design * Reading architectural and MEP construction documents * Understanding HVAC systems and controls * Building-envelope fundamentals * Energy-code compliance Experience in an MEP consulting environment is a plus. Software Experience Experience with one or more building-energy modeling platforms is preferred, such as: * EnergyPlus / OpenStudio * eQUEST * Trane TRACE 3D Plus * IES Virtual Environment * EnergyPro * Carrier HAP * COMcheck We are not necessarily looking for someone who already knows every program. A strong understanding of HVAC systems, building physics, and energy-modeling fundamentals is more important than expertise with a particular software package. Ideal Candidate The right person for this position is: * Analytical and naturally curious about how buildings perform * Comfortable working with detailed technical information * Able to troubleshoot results that don't initially make sense * Familiar with HVAC equipment and system operation * Detail-oriented without losing sight of the overall design objective * Comfortable working directly with engineers and architects * Able to explain technical modeling results in straightforward language * Interested in energy efficiency, high-performance buildings, and practical engineering solutions **We offer a competitive salary and benefits program that includes:** * Career Growth * Long Term Bonus Program * Health & Dental Benefits * 401K Contributions and Matching * Fun work environment & an awesome team to work with * Working on complex and high level projects. Job Types: Full-time, Permanent Pay: $70,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year Benefits: * 401(k) * 401(k) matching * Dental insurance * Flexible schedule * Flexible spending account * Health insurance * Health savings account * Life insurance * Paid time off * Vision insurance Experience: * Drafting: 2 years (Preferred) Work Location: In person
