Job description from the source

Our client, a semi-state organisation, is seeking a Project Engineer with a strong civil engineering design background and experience leading multidisciplinary teams. This is an excellent opportunity for a consultancy-based engineer to move client-side, take ownership of major infrastructure projects and develop towards Project Management. The role offers a salary of up to €75,000, an initial 3-year contract and an attractive benefits package, including a generous pension scheme and healthcare benefits. **Role Summary** This is a newly created position within the organisation's Programme Management Office (PMO), supporting the delivery of a significant capital engineering programme. The role will suit a Civil Engineer with at least 5 years' experience, ideally from an engineering consultancy, who has a strong understanding of the design process and has previously led or coordinated design teams. You will work closely with Project Managers, taking responsibility for the technical and engineering aspects of projects while coordinating external consultants and multidisciplinary teams. The position has a strong client-side focus, requiring someone who can challenge design proposals, assess engineering options, make recommendations on costs and technical solutions, and take accountability for project outcomes. Projects are focused on heavy civil infrastructure, including marine engineering, pavements, earthworks, roads, yards, utilities and large-scale structural works. Experience in marine, ports, airports or major infrastructure would be particularly advantageous. **Key Responsibilities** * Support Project Managers in managing engineering and infrastructure projects throughout their full lifecycle, from initial feasibility and scheme appraisal through design, planning, procurement, construction, commissioning and handover. * Lead and coordinate external engineering consultants, design teams and contractors, ensuring projects meet agreed technical, commercial and programme objectives. * Take ownership of engineering deliverables and project outcomes, identifying potential issues and taking responsibility for technical decisions and recommendations. * Review early-stage designs, assess engineering options and provide recommendations on technical solutions, project costs and value engineering. * Work closely with project sponsors and stakeholders to establish project scopes, requirements, deliverables and objectives. * Coordinate multidisciplinary teams across civil, marine, mechanical and electrical engineering, procurement, cost management, environmental and planning. * Identify, assess and manage project risks throughout the project lifecycle. * Monitor project progress, budgets and costs, working alongside the PMO's project management and cost management teams. * Manage the day-to-day performance of external consultants and contractors, ensuring effective delivery and value for money. * Ensure projects comply with relevant engineering, environmental, safety, planning and regulatory requirements. * Contribute to the development of project strategies, budgets and delivery plans, with a strong focus on sustainability and long-term infrastructure requirements. **Requirements** **Must Have** * Degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related discipline. * Minimum 5 years' experience working on civil engineering projects, ideally within an engineering consultancy. * Strong design experience, particularly across feasibility, concept and early-stage design. * Previous experience leading, managing or coordinating design teams and external consultants. * Experience working across the full project lifecycle, ideally from initial design through to construction and completion. * Strong technical understanding of civil infrastructure, with experience in areas such as roads, pavements, earthworks, utilities or heavy structures. * Experience engaging with clients and stakeholders, understanding their requirements and translating these into engineering deliverables. * Ability to take ownership of projects, make technical recommendations and manage engineering decisions. * Commercial awareness, including project costs, value engineering and risk management. * Strong communication and stakeholder management skills. **Desirable** * Marine, port, harbour or coastal engineering experience. * Experience across airports, roads, utilities or other major infrastructure projects. * Experience managing projects valued in excess of €5 million. * Previous experience working with contractors and multidisciplinary engineering teams. * Experience in project feasibility, cost assessments and procurement. * Knowledge of sustainability and environmental requirements within public infrastructure. * Familiarity with AutoCAD, Navisworks and MS Project. **Benefits** * Salary of up to €75,000, depending on experience. * Initial 3-year fixed-term contract. * Generous pension scheme with employer contributions of up to 12%, subject to a 5% employee contribution. * GP refund scheme covering employees and family members, up to €430 annually. * Comprehensive health screening programme every two years. * Employee Assistance Programme, including up to eight counselling sessions and 24/7 support. * Enhanced sick pay scheme. * Access to Udemy training resources and ongoing professional development. * Annual flu vaccinations. * Subsidised staff canteen. * Tax Saver Commuter Scheme. * Employee savings scheme. * Enhanced maternity, adoptive and paternity leave arrangements. * Additional marriage and compassionate leave. *Please note sponsorship may apply only to candidates with Marine exposure*
