Job description from the source
**SOUTH BAY, CALIFORNIA | HYBRID REMOTE | CALIFORNIA RESIDENTS ONLY** Full-time (40 hours/week) + paid overtime | $160,000–$230,000 DOE + bonuses Applicants must currently live in California. We are especially interested in engineers based in San Jose, Santa Clara, Sunnyvale, and surrounding South Bay communities. Out-of-state applicants will not be considered. **Lead the work that keeps California moving.** You have the technical experience to lead complex civil designs. Now you want a role where your judgment matters, your relationships make a difference, and you can help shape the direction of projects—not just deliver drawings. JMA Civil specializes in transportation, transit, and rail infrastructure across California. Our collaborative design teams give experienced engineers meaningful ownership, direct access to colleagues and clients, and room to grow as technical leaders. **Why join JMA?** * Lead meaningful transportation work: rail corridors, transit facilities, roadway, grading, drainage, and utility improvements. * Own technical outcomes: guide design decisions, mentor engineers, and work directly with clients and public agencies. * Work with a personable, professional team: clear communication, sound judgment, and strong working relationships matter here. * Hybrid flexibility: collaborate closely while maintaining flexibility within California. **What you’ll do** * Lead civil design and coordinate delivery from planning through construction, including PA&ED and PS&E packages. * Oversee alignments, profiles, grading, drainage, utilities, calculations, plans, specifications, and technical reports. * Apply Civil 3D and/or OpenRoads to develop and review designs. * Communicate with clients, agencies, utilities, subconsultants, and multidisciplinary teams. * Mentor project engineers, review technical work, and help maintain quality and schedules. **What you bring** * Current California Professional Engineer (Civil) license. * 8+ years of relevant civil engineering experience; candidates with approximately 8–15 years are especially encouraged. * Strong Civil 3D and/or OpenRoads experience, plus transportation or site/civil design knowledge. * Confidence leading technical work and communicating professionally with clients, agencies, and teammates. * Current California residence; South Bay location strongly preferred. No out-of-state applications. **Benefits** * Paid overtime * Performance bonuses * Strong base salary based on experience and skill level * Life, short‑ and long‑term disability insurance * 401(k) with significant employer contribution * 11 paid holidays plus an annual holiday shutdown * PTO starting at 2.5 weeks, increasing to 4 weeks with tenure * Additional recognition perks, including staff events and milestone celebrations * 100% company‑paid medical, dental, and vision (spouse & dependent coverage paid at 100% at 3 years) **Ready for more ownership?** If you are an experienced California civil engineer who enjoys building relationships, leading strong teams, and delivering transportation infrastructure, we would like to hear from you. Apply today and learn more at jmacivil.com. Job Type: Full-time Pay: $160,000.00 - $230,000.00 per year Benefits: * 401(k) * Dental insurance * Health insurance * Life insurance * Paid time off * Professional development assistance * Retirement plan * Vision insurance Application Question(s): * How many years of experience do you have with OpenRoads? * Where in California are you located (this position is for California residents only)?
