Job description from the source
**About Venrollment** Venrollment helps retirement advisors and employee benefits consultants communicate benefits through branded websites, videos, documents, and educational resources. Our tools help advisors create and manage educational content that makes complex benefits information easier for employees to understand. **The role** You'll help decide what to build and take features from an initial idea through to release. Working across the frontend and backend, you'll build tools that help advisors communicate benefits and websites that help employees understand them. We're a small team, so you'll take ownership of problems that may arrive without a clear solution. You'll investigate customer needs, recommend a scope and technical approach, and drive delivery. You'll work with the existing developers on decisions that affect other parts of the product and help strengthen how the team builds software. The work spans tools for creating educational content and interactive experiences that use video, animation, and clear visuals to explain benefits. You’ll help make content easier for advisors to create and easier for employees to explore and understand. We're also developing AI capabilities for document processing and internal tools, with plans to extend their use into customer-facing features. You'll help explore those opportunities alongside the broader product work. **What you will do** - Work with the team and customers to understand problems, question assumptions, and agree on a useful scope. - Build complete features across the interface, backend, and database, with attention to usability and accessibility. - Improve how advisors create and manage educational content and how employees find, explore, and understand it. - Keep the product reliable through testing and code review, and help improve team practices around security, performance, and maintainability. - Support features after release, investigate issues, and use customer feedback to guide improvements. **What you bring** - 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, or an equivalent track record of shipping and maintaining production applications. - Product judgment: you can investigate customer needs, question assumptions, and turn an unclear problem into a useful, achievable scope. - Ability to build across the frontend and backend. You may be stronger in one area, but you're comfortable taking responsibility for a complete feature, from understanding the problem through release and improvement. - Care for usability and accessibility, with confidence making everyday UX decisions and collaborating on larger design questions. - Sound engineering judgment: you balance delivery speed, reliability, and maintainability, consider the wider product, and know when to involve others. - Ability to get comfortable in an existing codebase, investigate unfamiliar problems, and make practical improvements. - Clear communication: you explain tradeoffs, raise blockers early, and collaborate well with technical and nontechnical colleagues. You welcome feedback and can disagree constructively. - Startup experience, or a willingness to work in a small team where responsibilities overlap and priorities can change. We work primarily with TypeScript, React, Fastify, and PostgreSQL. Experience building interactive learning experiences, educational modules, or tools that help people understand complex information is a plus. You’re curious about practical uses of AI and willing to experiment with new tools and approaches. You can assess what works, recognize limitations, and bring useful ideas back to the team. Hands-on experience applying AI to software, internal tools, or automation is a plus. **Why join** You'll work closely with the people using and supporting the product, with a direct voice in what we build. This is an opportunity to shape solutions, build them, and see their effect on customers while helping improve how a small team develops software.
