Job description from the source

If you're the controller people call when the books need fixing, and you want to do that work somewhere you own the whole function and have the authority to fix what you find, keep reading. Who we are Canopy Management is a full-service eCommerce agency. We grow brands doing $50K+ a month on Amazon, Walmart, Shopify, and TikTok Shop, and we run their paid media on Meta and Google. We're about 80 people, fully remote, a two-time Inc. Best Workplace, and No. 325 on the Inc. 5000. Our books take judgment. Retainers, performance-based fees, and project work. Deferred revenue. More than one company entity. Payroll across W-2 staff, contractors, and international team members. And a CEO who reads the financials line by line and asks why. What you'll own * **The close.** Month-end, quarter-end, and year-end, on a calendar you set and sign. * **Cash.** The 13-week forecast, banking, AR and collections, AP, and payment approvals under dual control. * **Margin.** Profit by partner and by department, tied to the general ledger, with your recommendation on what to change. * **Controls.** Who can move money, who approves it, and what happens when something doesn't reconcile. If a payment is wrong, you can stop it. * **Tax and compliance.** Federal, state, and international, working with our outside CPA firm. * **The team.** You lead an experienced Sr. Accounting Manager who runs the day-to-day close, so your time goes to review, analysis, and planning. * **The systems.** Sage Intacct and the tools around it. We expect you to automate the manual work, and we're glad if you use AI to do it. What success looks like * **Day 45:** your 13-week cash forecast is live and updated every week. * **Day 90:** you've signed two closes with no changes after sign-off, and the CEO gets a monthly package that answers questions before they're asked. * **Month 6:** your Sr. Accounting Manager can run a full close while you're out for two weeks. Every recurring task has a written procedure. * **Month 12:** the close lands by business day 5, the books could go to a lender or buyer within 10 business days with no rebuild, and the close takes 30% fewer hours. Why this seat * **A direct line to the CEO.** No CFO layer between you and the decisions. * **Authority in writing.** Your decision rights are spelled out in the role document you get on day one. * **A function to build, not babysit.** You set the standard for how finance runs here. * **Deal exposure.** We're growing, including through acquisitions, and you'll own the numbers when we do. * **Fully remote,** with a team that already works that way. You'll fit if you have * 8+ years in accounting, including 3+ years owning a close as the final reviewer and managing at least one accountant. * Deep U.S. GAAP knowledge, especially revenue recognition for retainers, performance fees, and deferred revenue. * Multi-entity experience, including intercompany balances. * Built and run a 13-week cash forecast. * Managed outside tax and audit firms and kept them on schedule. * Strong skills in Sage Intacct, NetSuite, or QuickBooks Online, and expert-level Excel or Google Sheets. * Automated at least one finance process, and you can show the before and after. * A bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance. A CPA is a plus, not a requirement. So is agency, professional services, or eCommerce experience. This isn't for you if * You want a big team and a long ramp before you own the close. * You report numbers without saying what they mean. * You'd rather keep the CEO comfortable than say what the numbers show. How to apply Send your resume and a short note or a 3-minute Loom. Skip the cover letter template and answer two questions: * Tell us about one finance function you took over and made better. What did it look like when you started, what did you change, and where did it stand when you left? * On day one here, what's the first report you'd ask to see, and why? Specific answers get read first. *Treetop Industries, LLC d/b/a Canopy Management provides equal employment opportunities (EEO) to all employees and applicants for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability or genetics.* Job Type: Full-time Pay: $135,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year Work Location: Remote
