Firearms Instructor / Range Safety Officer

**Overview** Capitol Range & Firearms is seeking a safety-focused, personable, and customer-oriented Firearms Instructor to join our team. The primary responsibility of this position is to provide high-quality firearms instruction in a safe, welcoming, and professional environment for customers of all experience levels. The ideal candidate is passionate about firearms education, committed to responsible firearm ownership, and able to make customers feel comfortable and confident as they develop their skills. This position also includes Range Safety Officer responsibilities, ensuring that all customers follow established safety procedures and enjoy a positive experience on the range. We are looking for someone who shares that commitment and understands that excellent instruction begins with safety, patience, and outstanding customer service. **Key Responsibilities** ***Firearms Instruction*** * Provide safe, professional, and engaging firearms instruction to individuals and groups with varying levels of experience. * Teach fundamental firearm safety, safe handling, proper operation, marksmanship, and other applicable skills within the scope of your qualifications. * Assist with scheduled classes, private lessons, introductory sessions, and other instructional programs offered by Capitol Range & Firearms. * Create a positive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and developing their abilities. * Adapt instructional methods to meet the needs, goals, and experience levels of individual students. * Promote responsible firearm ownership, safe storage practices, and continued education. * Maintain appropriate professional credentials and follow all applicable instructional standards and company policies. ***Range Safety Officer Responsibilities*** * Monitor range activities and consistently enforce all range safety rules and procedures. * Provide range orientations and safety briefings to customers as needed. * Identify and promptly address unsafe behavior in a calm, professional, and respectful manner. * Maintain a visible, approachable presence on the range and assist customers who need guidance. * Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe range environment. **Customer Service** * Deliver a friendly, welcoming, and professional experience for every customer. * Help new shooters feel comfortable and supported while maintaining a high standard of safety. * Answer customer questions, explain range procedures, and provide guidance on available classes and instructional services. * Build positive relationships with customers and encourage continued participation in training and the shooting sports. * Represent Capitol Range & Firearms professionally and contribute to a team-oriented workplace. ***General Store and Range Support*** * Assist with daily range operations, facility upkeep, and other duties as needed. * Support class scheduling, preparation, and coordination of instructional activities. * Assist customers with firearms, ammunition, accessories, and related products when needed. * Work collaboratively with management and other team members to improve customer satisfaction and support business operations. **Qualifications** * Strong knowledge of firearms safety, handling, and operation. * Previous firearms instruction, range safety, or related experience preferred, but not required for the right candidate. * NC concealed carry instructor credentials preferred. * Other recognized firearms instructor certifications are a plus. * Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. * Patient, approachable, and comfortable working with people who have little or no firearms experience. * Strong judgment, attention to detail, and a commitment to maintaining a safe environment. * Dependable, professional, and able to work independently while contributing to a team. * Willingness to learn, participate in ongoing training, and follow company policies and applicable laws. **Compensation and Benefits** * **Pay:** Starting at $15.00 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications. * **Expected Hours:** 8–40 hours per week. * **Benefits:** Employee discount and flexible scheduling.
