Database Software Engineer

**Job Description** Couchbase is seeking a skilled Database Software Engineer to help design, develop, optimize, and maintain database technologies that support high-performance applications and data-intensive workloads. The ideal candidate has a strong foundation in software engineering, database internals, distributed systems, and performance optimization. In this role, you will contribute to database engine development, improve query processing and data management capabilities, troubleshoot complex technical issues, and collaborate with engineering teams to deliver reliable, scalable database software. **Responsibilities** * Design, develop, and maintain database software components and related tools. * Implement and improve database functionality, query processing, indexing, and data storage mechanisms. * Analyze database performance and optimize resource utilization, latency, and throughput. * Develop and maintain automated tests to verify correctness, stability, and performance. * Investigate software defects and resolve complex database-related issues. * Contribute to distributed systems features, replication, and data consistency mechanisms. * Participate in code reviews and follow established software engineering standards. * Collaborate with product managers, quality engineers, and other developers on technical requirements. * Document software designs, implementation details, and troubleshooting procedures. * Evaluate new technologies and engineering approaches to improve database reliability and scalability. **Requirements** * Professional experience in software engineering, database development, or a related field. * Proficiency in a systems programming language such as C++, Go, Java, or Rust. * Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, and software design principles. * Knowledge of relational or NoSQL database concepts. * Familiarity with concurrency, memory management, and performance analysis. * Experience with debugging, automated testing, and version control systems such as Git. * Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. * Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional engineering teams. **Preferred Skills** * Experience with distributed databases or database engine development. * Understanding of distributed systems, replication, and fault tolerance. * Familiarity with query execution, indexing strategies, caching, and storage engines. * Experience with Linux development and performance profiling tools. * Knowledge of cloud infrastructure and containerized environments. * Familiarity with continuous integration and automated testing pipelines. **About the Company** Couchbase develops a distributed NoSQL database platform designed for modern applications, including cloud, mobile, and edge use cases.
