Job description from the source

Construction Safety Officer **Construction | Field Safety** Kasco is looking for a **Staff Safety Officer** to support day-to-day safety activities on our construction projects. This is a hands-on, field-based position that works closely with the Safety Director, project teams, subcontractors, and field personnel to reinforce safe work practices and maintain accurate safety documentation. This role is a great fit for someone with **practical construction experience who understands how jobsites operate and enjoys working directly with field teams**. You do not necessarily need to have spent your entire career in a dedicated safety role. A former tradesperson, foreman, superintendent, safety representative, or other experienced construction professional with strong safety awareness could be a great fit. The ideal candidate is comfortable working in the field, addressing safety concerns professionally, and using technology and tools such as Procore to maintain accurate safety documentation. **What You’ll Do** **Support Jobsite Safety** * Perform routine jobsite walk-throughs to identify unsafe conditions, housekeeping issues, PPE gaps, and other safety or compliance concerns. * Document safety observations and violations as required. * Enforce required PPE standards consistently and professionally with employees, subcontractors, vendors, and visitors. * Coach field personnel on safe work practices using practical, construction-based communication. * Support corrective actions, including barricades, signage, housekeeping corrections, access control, and other immediate mitigation efforts. * Help ensure corrective-action documentation is communicated to affected subcontractors and other appropriate parties. * Escalate serious, repeated, or high-risk safety concerns to the Safety Director and appropriate project leadership. **Orientations & Safety Documentation** * Conduct and document project safety orientations for employees, subcontractors, visitors, and new site personnel in accordance with project and client requirements. * Maintain orientation logs, sign-in sheets, training records, PPE documentation, inspection records, and corrective-action follow-up. * Enter, upload, and organize safety documentation in Procore or other company-approved systems. * Maintain required Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for materials used on project sites and help ensure SDS information is available to appropriate parties. * Use photos, notes, checklists, and digital forms to document jobsite observations and corrective actions. * Track orientation completion, PPE issues, inspection findings, near misses, and corrective-action status. * Assist the Safety Director with routine reporting, meeting notes, inspection tracking, toolbox talks, safety bulletins, and other project-specific safety communications. * Provide routine updates to the Safety Director regarding safety activity, open issues, and field concerns. **Help Plan Work Safely** * Assist field teams with basic task analysis, pre-task planning, and Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) documentation. * Review upcoming work activities for common hazards, including fall exposure, equipment movement, material handling, hot work, confined areas, utility exposure, and site access conflicts. * Help verify that required safety controls, PPE, permits, and work-area protections are in place before work begins. * Regularly inspect jobsites for tool and equipment compliance. * Document identified hazards, corrective actions, responsible parties, and follow-up through closure. **What We’re Looking For** * Construction field experience or direct knowledge of jobsite operations, trade sequencing, and common construction hazards. * Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with craft workers, foremen, superintendents, project managers, subcontractors, and visitors. * Strong technology skills, including the ability to use **Procore or similar construction management software, an iPad, laptop, email, digital photos, and electronic forms** as part of daily work. * Strong documentation, organization, and recordkeeping skills. * Ability to recognize basic safety concerns and either address them at the field level or escalate them appropriately. * Dependable attendance and punctuality, with the ability to work in active construction environments. * Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to assigned project sites as needed. **Preferred Qualifications** * Previous experience as a tradesperson, foreman, superintendent, safety representative, or other construction field professional. * OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification preferred; OSHA 10-Hour Construction certification preferred at minimum where applicable. * First Aid/CPR/AED certification. * Additional construction safety, competent person, or related safety training. * Experience using Procore for safety observations, inspections, daily logs, and documentation. **What Success Looks Like** In this role, you’ll help ensure that: * Safety orientations are completed before personnel begin work, with accurate records maintained. * PPE and jobsite safety requirements are enforced consistently and professionally. * Safety hazards are identified, documented, and corrected promptly or assigned for follow-up. * Serious or high-risk concerns are escalated quickly to the Safety Director and project leadership. * Safety documentation is current, complete, organized, and maintained in company-approved systems. * Field teams receive practical safety support without unnecessary administrative burden. **Work Environment** This position involves regular work on active construction sites. Candidates must be able to: * Walk jobsites, climb stairs, and navigate temporary walkways and uneven surfaces. * Work around construction equipment, materials, noise, dust, and changing weather conditions. * Wear required PPE, including a hard hat, safety glasses, high-visibility clothing, hearing protection, gloves, and appropriate footwear. * Occasionally carry safety supplies, signage, documentation materials, or other light field equipment. * Split time between field activities, project office work, digital documentation, and meetings. Benefits: * 401(k) * 401(k) matching * Dental insurance * Disability insurance * Employee assistance program * Employee stock ownership plan * Flexible spending account * Health insurance * Health savings account * Life insurance * Paid time off * Parental leave * Professional development assistance * Referral program * Tuition reimbursement * Vision insurance Work Location: In person
