Job description from the source
Case Manager – Social Security Disability Claims Oct 26, 2026 · @Karl **Disability Specialists · Cook, MN or remote · $50,000–$60,000 a year** Why this job matters Most people who apply for Social Security disability are already going through one of the hardest stretches of their lives. They're out of work, managing a health condition, and facing a federal process with long waits, strict deadlines, and a lot of paperwork. Many are denied the first time and don't realize they can appeal. That's where we come in. Disability Specialists represents people through SSDI and SSI claims, from the first application through appeal. As our Case Manager, you'll keep each client's claim moving: you'll know where it stands, what it still needs, and what comes next, and you'll make sure the client knows too. The role You'll manage a caseload of claims at different stages, working with clients, Social Security field and hearing offices, and medical providers. The job is part paperwork, part detective work, and part customer care. A good day ends with a complete file, a deadline met, and a client who feels less alone in the process. Your work at each stage of a claim Stage What you'll do **Intake** Schedule intake appointments and send reminder letters. Handle intakes for new and returning clients when needed, and make first contact with each new client by phone or letter. **Representation and billing** Receive and process representation paperwork. Enter charges from the first client conference and from hearings in Prevail, our case management software. **Working the claim with SSA** Process paperwork from Social Security and run regular status checks. Keep each client's medical, address, and phone information current, and submit updates when needed. Check claims for quality and accuracy before they go out. **Denials and appeals** Process denials at every level, including decisions from Administrative Law Judges and the Appeals Council. Write "good cause" requests when a deadline was missed for a valid reason. **Hearing level** Complete pre-hearing forms and review exhibit files. Submit on-the-record requests, dire need requests, and stipulations. **Appeals Council and federal court** File Appeals Council appeals and track their status. Set up client calls and appointments when a case moves to the Appeals Council or federal court. When an Appeals Council case ends, close the file and start a new claim if the client needs one. **Closing files** Close finished files and withdraw applications or hearing requests when needed. Handle the files of clients who have passed away with care. **Every day** * Answer incoming calls from Social Security, hearing offices, and the Appeals Council * Sort mail, email, and faxes from clients and hearing offices, and route each one to the right person * Work closely with our representatives and support staff * Help with other tasks as needed Who thrives in this role * **You're organized by nature.** You can keep many open files straight, and you notice when something is missing. * **You write and speak clearly.** You can explain a confusing letter from Social Security to a worried client, then fill out a precise form for a government reviewer. * **You stay patient and kind under pressure.** Clients may be in pain, frustrated, or scared. You stay steady and respectful. * **You follow through.** A records request isn't done when it's sent. It's done when the records arrive. * **You manage your own time well.** You can plan your day and set priorities without someone checking in, which matters even more if you work remotely. * **You're comfortable with technology.** You use standard office software easily and can learn a case management system quickly. **Helpful, but not required:** * Experience with Prevail case management software * Knowledge of SSDI and SSI rules and procedures * A background in social services, healthcare, legal support, insurance claims, or customer service New to disability claims? If the rest of this sounds like you, we'd still like to hear from you. Pay and benefits * **Salary:** $48,000–$60,000, based on experience * **2 weeks paid vacation** starting your first year * **24 hours of additional PTO** * **IRA with [3]% employer match** * **Health care stipend** * **Flexibility:** Work from our Cook, MN office or remotely, for qualified candidates * **Work with a clear purpose:** every finished file moves someone closer to the support they need Pay: $48,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year Benefits: * 401(k) matching * Life insurance * Paid training * Parental leave Work Location: Remote
