Job description from the source

**About this role** We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer with 4-15 years of experience to join Brillian as a core builder of AI-native financial intelligence products. You'll work alongside a small, senior team to transform manual accounting workflows into intelligent backend systems — bringing a scientific, experimental mindset to high-stakes AI engineering problems. **What will you be doing?** * Building agentic AI systems (looping, orchestration) that power customer-facing product features in production * Taking messy financial data sets and building programmatic pipelines to model and extract insights from them * Owning features end-to-end: from articulating the user need through to production deployment, monitoring, and iteration * Designing and running rigorous evaluations to measure whether AI approaches are moving the needle * Converting what's traditionally done manually in accounting into automated backend services **Key Requirements** * Proven track record shipping production code — strong software engineering fundamentals are non-negotiable * Experience building AI/agentic systems in production at scale (not just side projects or prompt wrappers) * Scientific, experimental approach to development — rigorous evaluation of AI outputs and ability to get stakeholder buy-in * End-to-end ownership mentality; startup experience or evidence of taking things from zero to one * Production-grade Python skills with backend service development experience **RequirementsRequirementsDealbreaker** **Work experience** * **Must have** Hands-on experience with ML/AI implementation including building agentic workflows and AI-native product features - multi-step orchestration, evaluations, not just API wrappers * **Must have** Deep backend engineering experience, data-dense domain like document parsing or financial data * **Must have** Owned work end-to-end that created real user value or customer impact **Miscellaneous** * **Must have** US-based, NY Metro preferred **Baseline** **Seniority** * **Required** 4 - 15 years of experience in backend software engineering, with production Python and AI/ML systems ideally at early-stage startups **Work experience** * **Required** Early-stage startup experience, ideally experiencing a degree of growth; valuation accounting preferred **Hard skills** * **Required** Experience writing production code in Python **Soft skills** * **Required** Scientific, experimental approach to engineering — uses rigorous evaluations to measure progress and communicate results to stakeholders **Nice-to-have** **Education** * Academic or research background in ML/Data Science **Hard skills** * Experience with Elixi **Traits to avoid** * Only worked at large non-tech companies (e.g. banks) with no startup or end-to-end ownership * Generalist backend, full-stack or infra engineers whose AI exposure is limited to recent LLM integrations * Extended gaps filled only with vibe-coded side projects with no users * Pure researchers who prefer siloed, non-production work * Multiple short stints (under ~1 year), or only one employer across their career **What to ask candidates** * Tell us about a time you built an agentic system or AI-native feature in production. How did you evaluate your approach against alternatives and know you were moving the needle in the right direction? * What is their salary expectation? * How actively is this candidate exploring new opportunities? **Ideal candidates & backgrounds** **AI / ML Companies** * Anthropic * OpenAI * DeepMind * Cohere * Adept AI * Inflection AI * Anyscale * LangChain **Fintech / SaaS Companies** * Ramp * Brex * Stripe * Square * Plaid * Mercury * Pilot.com * Benchling * Puzzle * Airbase **AI / Developer Tools Companies** * Replit * Cursor * Harvey AI * Glean * Hebbia * Moveworks * Norm Ai * Rogo **Excluded Companies** * Jpmorgan Chase Bank National Association * Goldman Sachs * Bank of America * Citigroup * Wells Fargo * Morgan Stanley * HSBC * Barclays * Deutsche Bank * UBS Pay: $200,000.00 - $250,000.00 per year Work Location: In person
