Job description from the source
Citadel Electric Group is a Kansas City\-area electrical contractor specializing in large commercial, industrial and federal construction projects. Our team works on complex projects where safety, quality and execution matter. We are looking for a **Safety Specialist** to join our Safety team and support our field operations throughout the Kansas City metropolitan area. The Role This is a field\-focused position — not a desk job and not a "safety police" role. The Safety Specialist serves as a visible, trusted safety resource for our electricians, foremen, superintendents and project managers. You'll spend significant time in the field identifying hazards, helping solve problems, coaching employees and working with project leadership to prevent incidents and continuously improve how we operate. The right person will be comfortable walking an active construction site, communicating with people at every level of the organization and balancing strong safety expectations with the realities of getting construction work done. **Work Location:** This is an on\-site position in the Kansas City metropolitan area. The Safety Specialist may be based at Citadel's Oak Grove headquarters or assigned to a major project in De Soto, Overland Park, or Grandview, depending on project needs and candidate location. What You'll Do * Maintain a strong and visible presence on active construction projects. * Build productive relationships with electricians, foremen, superintendents and project managers. * Conduct jobsite safety inspections, observations and audits. * Identify hazards and work with field leadership to implement practical corrective actions. * Participate in pre\-task planning, Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and toolbox talks. * Conduct or coordinate employee safety orientations and training. * Assist with site\-specific safety plans and required safety documentation. * Maintain training, inspection, permit and regulatory records. * Participate in incident, near\-miss and property\-damage investigations. * Assist with root\-cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions. * Partner with field leadership and Citadel's corporate Safety team to identify trends and improve performance. * Provide safety support to other Citadel projects as needed. What We're Looking For We're open to both experienced construction\-safety professionals and high\-potential early\-career candidates. * Associate or bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health \& Safety, Construction Management or a related field preferred, or equivalent relevant experience. * Construction safety, construction operations or field experience preferred. * Strong communication and interpersonal skills. * Ability to coach and influence field employees without becoming adversarial. * Sound judgment and a practical approach to problem solving. * Ability to work independently and take ownership of responsibilities. * Strong organizational and documentation skills. * Valid driver's license and reliable transportation. * Ability to meet background and access requirements for secure project facilities. Preferred Qualifications * 1–3 years of construction safety or field operations experience. * Electrical construction experience. * OSHA 30 certification. * Familiarity with OSHA construction standards, NFPA 70E and applicable ANSI standards. * CHST, GSP, CSP or other applicable safety credentials. **Recent graduates and graduating seniors with relevant education, internships or construction experience are encouraged to apply.**
