Job description from the source
**Build software that makes everyday work easier** Growing businesses often rely on disconnected tools to manage projects, track approvals, and coordinate their teams. At Northvia Technologies, we build cloud\-based software that brings those activities together and reduces the time people spend on repetitive administrative tasks. We are looking for a Software Developer who enjoys turning practical business problems into useful, reliable features. You will contribute across the stack, help shape technical decisions, and see your work move from an initial idea into the hands of customers. This is a fully remote position for candidates based in the United States. **The product and the people behind it** Our platform helps small and midsize businesses organize projects, automate workflows, and understand how work moves through their organizations. Customers use it to assign responsibilities, manage approval processes, track progress, and connect information from other business applications. You will join a small engineering team working closely with product management and design. Engineers participate early in planning, contribute to estimates, and help identify simpler solutions when requirements become unnecessarily complex. We use written proposals, code reviews, and focused meetings to keep work moving. We value clear communication, thoughtful questions, and a willingness to share knowledge. **Your role on the team** As a Software Developer, you will own moderately complex features from technical planning through implementation, testing, and release. Your work will include both customer\-facing interfaces and the services that support them. You might build a configurable approval workflow, improve the performance of a reporting page, or develop an integration that keeps customer data synchronized across systems. You will also spend time improving existing code and investigating issues that affect the customer experience. You will report to an Engineering Manager and work alongside developers who can provide feedback and support. We expect you to work independently on familiar problems and ask for help when requirements, risks, or technical constraints need clarification. **What you will work on** Your responsibilities will cover several parts of the development process: * **Feature development:** Build responsive interfaces in React and TypeScript, implement backend functionality in Node.js, and connect both through well\-defined APIs. * **Data and integrations:** Work with PostgreSQL, design database changes, improve queries, and integrate external services with appropriate validation and error handling. * **Software quality:** Write meaningful automated tests, review pull requests, and help keep the codebase understandable and maintainable. * **Reliability and performance:** Investigate bugs, use logs and monitoring tools to diagnose problems, and address performance issues across the application. * **Security and accessibility:** Apply secure coding practices, handle customer information carefully, and build interfaces that people with different accessibility needs can use. * **Planning and collaboration:** Discuss requirements with product managers and designers, break work into manageable tasks, and communicate progress and blockers. * **Documentation:** Record technical decisions, explain important tradeoffs, and maintain guidance that helps teammates work with the systems you build. You will also participate in release support during your scheduled working hours. This position does not include a scheduled overnight on\-call rotation. **Our engineering environment** Our current stack includes: **Frontend** \- React, TypeScript, HTML, CSS **Backend** \- Node.js, TypeScript, REST APIs **Database** \- PostgreSQL **Infrastructure** \- AWS and Docker **Version control and delivery** \- GitHub and GitHub Actions **Testing** \- Vitest, React Testing Library, and Playwright You do not need prior experience with every tool listed. Strong development fundamentals and experience with a comparable stack are valuable. **What you should bring** We are looking for someone with approximately **2–4 years of professional software development experience** who can demonstrate: * Strong working knowledge of JavaScript or TypeScript. * Experience building and maintaining applications with React. * Experience developing backend services with Node.js or a comparable backend framework. * An understanding of HTTP, API design, authentication, and common web application patterns. * Practical experience with relational databases and SQL. * Familiarity with Git, pull requests, and collaborative code review. * Experience writing automated tests and diagnosing failures. * The ability to break an unfamiliar problem into smaller steps and explain your approach. * Clear written communication and consistent follow\-through in a remote environment. A degree in Computer Science or a related field is welcome, but equivalent professional experience, self\-directed learning, and other educational paths are equally relevant. **Experience that would help you get started** The following would be useful, but none is required: * Building business software or SaaS products. * Working with AWS services and containerized applications. * Maintaining CI/CD pipelines. * Improving application performance using monitoring and profiling tools. * Implementing permissions, audit logs, or multi\-tenant application features. * Applying web accessibility standards in production interfaces. * Contributing to shared component libraries or internal developer tools. **Your first three months** **During your first month**, you will set up your development environment, learn how customers use the product, and become familiar with our architecture and release process. You will work with an onboarding partner and deliver a small improvement with support from the team. **During your second month**, you will take responsibility for a feature or a defined part of a larger project. You will contribute to planning, write tests, participate in reviews, and follow your changes through deployment. **By the end of your third month**, we expect you to deliver moderately scoped work with increasing independence, communicate tradeoffs clearly, and help maintain the areas of the application you have worked on. We evaluate success through the usefulness and reliability of your work, your collaboration with others, and your ability to learn and follow through. **How remote work works here** You may work from anywhere within the United States where Northvia Technologies can employ you. This role requires no regular office attendance or business travel. Our core collaboration hours are **10:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m. Eastern Time, Monday through Friday**. Outside those hours, you can organize your schedule around focused work and personal commitments while meeting the expectations of a full\-time, approximately 40\-hour workweek. We use written updates and shared documentation to keep decisions accessible. Meetings are intended for discussion, planning, and problems that benefit from working together in real time. We provide company equipment and onboarding support. You will need a reliable internet connection and a workspace suitable for focused work and confidential conversations. **Pay, benefits, and professional growth** The annual base salary for this position is **$100,000–$145,000**. The final offer will reflect relevant experience, demonstrated technical ability, and the scope of responsibility you are ready to take on. A discretionary annual performance bonus may be awarded in addition to base salary. Our benefits package includes: * Medical, dental, and vision insurance. * A 401(k) retirement plan with employer matching. * 20 days of paid time off, plus company holidays. * Paid parental leave. * A company\-provided laptop. * A one\-time home office setup allowance and monthly internet reimbursement. * An annual learning budget for approved courses, books, certifications, or conferences. * Regular development conversations with your manager and opportunities to take on broader technical responsibilities. **What to expect when you apply** Our interview process has four stages: * **Introductory conversation — 30 minutes.** Discuss your experience, interests, availability, and expectations with our recruiting team. * **Project discussion — 45 minutes.** Walk through a project you have worked on, including your contribution, technical decisions, and lessons learned. You do not need to share confidential code or materials. * **Practical technical session — 60 minutes.** Collaborate with an engineer on a small coding or debugging task that reflects everyday development work. You may use documentation and ask questions throughout. * **Engineering manager conversation — 30 minutes.** Discuss collaboration, ownership, professional development, and any remaining questions about the role. There is no unpaid take\-home project. We will explain each stage in advance and provide an update after every interview. **Apply to Northvia Technologies** Submit your résumé through the application form accompanying this posting. A short introduction describing your interests and relevant experience is welcome, but a cover letter is not required. You may include a portfolio, GitHub profile, or other work samples you are permitted to share. Public projects are optional; we recognize that much professional engineering work takes place in private repositories. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. Northvia Technologies considers qualified applicants from all backgrounds. If you need an accommodation during the application or interview process, let our recruiting team know so we can arrange appropriate support. Pay: $100,000\.00 \- $145,000\.00 per year Benefits: * 401(k) * AD\&D insurance * Dental insurance * Disability insurance * Family leave * Health insurance * Life insurance * Paid parental leave * Parental leave * Partner benefits * Vision insurance Work Location: Remote
